Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu (1,400 m / 4,593 ft): 1-2 hrs

Ama Adventure representative will pick you up from the airport. After settling in at your lodge, spend the evening exploring the neighborhood. If you’re staying near Thamel or Patan, enjoy the beautiful collection of temples, statues, palaces, and shops for local crafts.

Day 2: Bike around Shivapuri National Park (1,400 m / 4,593 ft): 3-4 hrs

After breakfast, we will check your gear for a mountain bike to make sure you have everything to hit on the trail. After breakfast gets ready for heading towards the Shivapuri National Park biking on the single-track jeep road through the wooden land. Basically, you cross 11 to 12 miles but it is dependent upon your route selection.

Before biking, visit the ancient Budhanilkantha Temple, where a magnificent stone idol of sleeping Vishnu rests in a pond.

Once inside the national park, explore jungle trails, waterfalls, and streams. Enjoy bird watching and, on clear days, views of the snow-capped Himalayas before returning to Kathmandu.

Day 3: Kathmandu to Pokhara (884 m / 2,900 ft): 7-8 hrs

Drive to the beautiful lake city Pokhara where you will have time to walk and explore on your own. Pokhara is the entry point for the Annapurna region and the second most visited city in Nepal. Walk down to the lake to see the colorful boats and people paragliding above.

Day 4: Fly to Jomsom and Bike to Kagbeni (3,092 m / 10,147 ft): 3-4 hrs

After breakfast, we take a morning flight to Jomsom and begin our Lower Mustang Mountain Bike adventure. Ride 9 miles along the Kali Gandaki River to Kagbeni, gateway to the restricted Upper Mustang region. Kagbeni is the gateway of the last forbidden kingdom Upper Mustang.

The biking tour to the lower Mustang provides a look into a traditional way of living in the region. It played a big role during trans Himalayan salt trading periods between India and Tibet.

The Red Buddhist monastery in the middle of the village is worth visiting after your ride.

Day 5: Bike to Muktinath (3,800 m / 12,464 ft): 4-5 hrs

After enjoying breakfast, get ready for another great day of bike-riding. From Kagbeni, continue your climb up to Muktinath and ride an 11-mile loop. Experience the beauty of the valley from the sacred temple that has 108 spouts of water.

Retire for the night to your teahouse for some much-needed rest after riding for almost two days with an elevation gain of almost 4,000 ft.

Day 6: Muktinath to Marpha (2,679 m / 8,789 ft): 4-5 hrs

After breakfast,  enjoy a thrilling 20-mile downhill ride to Marpha, known as the Apple Capital of Nepal. Choose between a jeep track for intermediate riders or a technical single-track for advanced bikers. The ride is mostly downhill, so enjoy the breeze as you rush down through the valley.

Ride into Marpha in the afternoon.

In 1966, a horticultural farm was established in the village and introduced local families to apple production. Marpha is now known for its apple pies, apple, apple cider, apple crumbles, and more.

You can tour a local distillery to learn how brandy is made. It’s also worthwhile to visit the monastery and sit for a daily puja (worship ceremony) before retiring for the evening.

Day 7: Marpha to Tatopani (1,220 m / 4,002 ft): 6-7 hrs

Ride 26 miles downhill along the banks of Kali Gandaki River, which is well paved most of the points. We stop at the powerful waterfall named Rupse Chahara.

Upon arrival in Tatopani, relax in the natural hot springs, perfect for soothing tired muscles.

Day 8: Tatopani to Beni and Travel to Pokhara (884 m / 2,900 ft): 5-6 hrs

After breakfast in Tatopani, paddle 14 miles to Beni where you will take a private car to Naudanda. From this point, bike to Pokhara valley for 7 miles offer a beautiful view of Pokhara, overlooking Pokhara Valley before settling in the city.

Day 9: Free Day in Pokhara

Today is your extra day in Pokhara, enjoy your time as your own. You can organize a day tour to visit local stupas, shops, Temples, and local markets. You may also rent a boat to visit Tal Barahi Temple on the lake.

For those who are interested in Nepal’s indigenous history and mountain climbing, the International Mountain Museum is the best option.

Enjoy your evening try one best restaurant that offers western or Nepali cuisine within a short walk near your hotel.

Difficulty Level

The mountain bike trip to Lower Mustang requires an average level of fitness and the ability to handle variable terrain on a bicycle. Given the high altitudes and physically demanding nature of this trip, it’s advisable to have prior biking experience and possibly undergo some training before embarking on this adventure. Over the course of the Muktinath to Kathmandu biking trip, you will cover approximately 100 miles.

Meals

Throughout our trek, you’ll savor authentic Nepalese dishes alongside international cuisines such as Tibetan, Continental, Italian, and Indian. Breakfast and dinner will be served at the tea houses or lodge menus where we stay overnight, while lunches will be provided en route to our next destination. During the trek, all meals are included. In Kathmandu and Pokhara, breakfast is provided, and farewell dinner will be arranged for our guests.

Lodging

We’ll be accommodated at Hotel Manaslu in Kathmandu and Bodhi Suites in Pokhara, and the best available teahouses during our trek. Accommodations are based on twin sharing. For those requesting a single room, there will be an additional cost of USD 150. While we aim for rooms with attached washrooms, please note that some tea houses may only have shared washing and toilet facilities. Single rooms are readily available in Kathmandu, Pokhara, and lower-elevation trekking areas, but availability might be limited at higher elevations.

Weather Information

Lower Mustang’s climate shifts noticeably with elevation. Daytime temperatures range from 10°C to 20°C (50°F to 68°F), while mornings and nights, especially near Muktinath, can drop to 0°C–5°C (32°F–41°F). Layered clothing is recommended, with riders starting in a fleece or jacket and adjusting as the day warms.

How Many People will be in the group?
We are flexible with the number of participants in a group from a minimum of two people to a maximum of 15. To ensure comfort, we prefer to travel in small groups.
Do I need special training to be participating in the Mountain Bike Trip?
Our mountain bike trip will take us through a variety of trails suited for all riders, from novices to experts. The general knowledge of shifting, braking, body positioning, and uphills and downhills is expected of our clients. As well to Novice, Intermediate, and Professional riders, we also offer the trip to Professional riders.
What Kind of Bike do I need?
An all-mountain bike is what we would call it. Depending on the ride you will be doing at our playground, though. Depending on your bike, we have all-mountain, cross-country, and enduro/downhill rides. The minimum travel in the front and rear should be 120mm and 140mm respectively. If your preference is hardtail riding then it is ok to hardtail also.
What kind of tires should I bring for the ride in Nepal?
We would recommend an aggressive thread for this ride as we will be encountering rough, muddy, dusty, loose sandy, and hard dry trails. It is better to have Maxxis Ardent 2.3 and 2.4 for all-mountain rides but if you have sinned on Enduro/ downhill trip we would recommend Maxxis high roller 2.3 and 2.4, you can bring the same quality tries from Bontrager or Schwalbe.
How long do we ride each day on our biking trip?
The distances are different every day. Usually, we will ride from 15 km to 35km maximum in a day. Our team leader will explain each day's schedule.
How are we going to transport all our stuff or do we have to carry manage all our gear with us?
Your all the luggage transporting on the jeep as far as abscess the road. On the off-road track, porters will be carrying all the stuff for the biking tour. Your luggage will transfer to your next accommodation each day before your arrival on most of the days. Regarding your bike after the trip.
Can I rent a bike from you?
We collaborate with authorized dealers of Kathmandu and Pokhara to hire mountain bikes. We have high-quality mountain bikes available in store. We suggest Enduro/ downhill bikes available in store.
