Trip Overview

This tour’s highlight is the Ura Yakchoe Festival, where invocations of local blessings and religious purification take place. The Tsechus are a vibrant and breathtaking spectacle of color, offering a medieval yet exotic experience. The four valleys of Punakha, Bumthang, Ura, and Wangdue are so beautiful, words hardly do them justice.

Bhutan, nestled in the Eastern Himalayas, is one of the world’s top biodiversity hotspots. In May, nature puts on a spectacular show with wild orchids, rhododendrons, Blue Poppies (the national flower), and a wealth of medicinal plants, high-altitude flora, and tropical trees. With over 70% of the country covered in lush forests, Bhutan’s pristine rivers and terraced rice fields provide a picturesque backdrop.

Landlocked and surrounded by the towering Himalayas, Bhutan offers a serene atmosphere, steeped in timeless beauty. This special itinerary brings you the best Bhutan has to offer, with cultural hikes to ancient dzongs (forts), Buddhist temples, monasteries, weekend markets, remote villages, and warm Bhutanese hospitality.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Paro (by Druk Air) - Paro to Thimphu (2,330 m / 7,644 ft): 1-2 hrs drive

You can fly into Paro from cities like Bangkok, New Delhi, Kathmandu, Dhaka, and more. We recommend flying from Bangkok as Druk Air operates daily flights between Bangkok and Paro, while flights from other locations may not be as frequent.

On clear days, you’ll enjoy breathtaking views of the world’s highest peaks, followed by the lush Paro valley as you descend. As you step off the plane, the cool, clean air of Bhutan greets you. After clearing customs and visa control, you’ll be driven to Thimphu, Bhutan’s modern capital, which is just about an hour’s drive away. With a population of around 98,000, Thimphu has only three main streets, and it is the only capital city in the world without traffic lights.
