Kathmandu Sightseeing Highlights
Your day begins with a guided tour of some of the most iconic cultural and historical sites around the Kathmandu Valley:
Kathmandu Durbar Square
A remarkable collection of ancient palaces, courtyards, and temples that once served as the royal residence of the Malla kings. One of the most fascinating features here is a 17th-century stone tablet set into the palace wall, inscribed in 15 different languages. The square remains a vibrant hub of religious and social activity and also houses three museums within the palace complex.
Swoyambhunath Stupa (Monkey Temple)
Perched atop a hill on the western side of the valley, this sacred Buddhist site offers panoramic views of Kathmandu. Believed to be among the oldest shrines in Nepal, Swoyambhunath is surrounded by countless monkeys and has deep spiritual significance tied to the myth of Kathmandu’s origin.
Patan City
A short drive brings us to Patan, a historic city known for its rich Newar culture. Explore the grand Patan Durbar Square, the Golden Gate, the Taleju Temple, the statue of Yogendra Malla, and the beautiful Krishna Mandir. You’ll also visit the Golden Temple (Hiranya Varna Mahavihar) and the unique Mahabouddha Temple. The walk through the streets is full of charm, with traditional architecture, local bazaars, and handicraft shops.
Pashupatinath Temple
Located just 5 km from the city center, Pashupatinath is one of the holiest Hindu temples dedicated to Lord Shiva. The ornate temple houses the sacred Shiva Linga and is set on the banks of the Bagmati River, where you can observe Hindu rituals and cremation ceremonies.
Boudhanath Stupa
One of the largest stupas in Nepal and a major center of Tibetan Buddhism. Built in the 5th century, this peaceful stupa is known for its giant dome, watchful Buddha eyes, and vibrant spiritual atmosphere. Tibetan pilgrims can often be seen walking around the stupa, spinning prayer wheels and chanting mantras.
