Inheritances of Kathmandu – Cultural Tour

Upon landing at Tribhuvan International Airport, one of our representatives from Ama Adventure will be there to greet you and transfer you comfortably to your hotel.

Once you’ve settled in and taken a short rest, your guide will take you on an easy walk through the lively streets of Thamel, known for its energy, colorful shops, and cafés. The walk continues to Ason, a traditional and bustling market that was once a key stop for traders journeying between Nepal and Tibet. It’s a great spot to get a taste of local life and browse for unique souvenirs.

Note:

If you arrive in Kathmandu after 4:00 PM, we’ll arrange a brief trip briefing with your guide at your hotel that evening. It’s a good time to go over any last-minute questions. If you arrive earlier in the day, the pre-trip meeting will be held at our office the same day. You’ll also get the chance to meet your trip guide in person.

Please remember to bring two passport-sized photos and a copy of your travel insurance to the meeting.

After breakfast, your day begins with a guided tour of some of Kathmandu’s most iconic UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Today’s highlights include Swoyambhunath (also known as the Monkey Temple), Pashupatinath Temple, Boudhanath Stupa, and the peaceful Kopan Monastery.

Swoyambhunath (Monkey Temple)

Perched atop a hill overlooking the city, Swoyambhunath is a sacred site for both Buddhists and Hindus. With sweeping views and a peaceful ambiance, the temple is known for its resident monkeys and is believed to be closely tied to the origin of the Kathmandu Valley.

Pashupatinath Temple

Located about 5 kilometers east of central Kathmandu, this is one of the most sacred Hindu temples dedicated to Lord Shiva. The richly decorated temple complex houses the holy Shiva Linga and draws thousands of pilgrims each year.

Boudhanath Stupa

This massive white dome is one of the most important Tibetan Buddhist sites outside of Tibet. Built in the 5th century, the stupa is said to house relics of Kasyapa Buddha. It’s surrounded by monasteries and prayer wheels and serves as a spiritual center for many Tibetan Buddhists.

Kopan Monastery

Nestled in greenery just outside of Boudhanath, Kopan Monastery is a serene space for learning and reflection. The monastery offers long-term courses in Tibetan Buddhism and meditation and is a peaceful spot to experience monastic life up close.

After the sightseeing tour, you’ll return to your hotel for the evening.

After breakfast, your guide will take you on another cultural journey through the historical gems of the Kathmandu Valley. Today’s highlights include Kathmandu Durbar Square, Bhaktapur Durbar Square, and the ancient temple of Changu Narayan.

Kathmandu Durbar Square

Once the royal palace of the Malla kings, this historic area is filled with temples, courtyards, and palaces built between the 12th and 18th centuries. One of the unique features here is a 17th-century stone inscription written in 15 different languages. The square remains a center of Kathmandu’s cultural and spiritual life and also houses three museums inside the old palace.

Bhaktapur Durbar Square

Located in Bhaktapur, an ancient city known for its rich culture and artistry, this royal complex is a showcase of Newari architecture at its best. Highlights include the towering Nyatapola Temple, the Palace of 55 Windows, the Golden Gate, and several other beautifully crafted temples and monuments. This UNESCO World Heritage Site feels like stepping back in time.

Changu Narayan Temple

Situated in a small hilltop village in Bhaktapur district, Changu Narayan is considered the oldest Hindu temple in Nepal. Built in the 4th century and dedicated to Lord Vishnu, the temple features intricate wood carvings, ancient statues, and historical stone inscriptions.

In the evening, celebrate the end of your journey with a traditional farewell dinner at a local Nepali restaurant.

As your journey with us comes to a close, we’ll arrange your transfer to Tribhuvan International Airport for your flight home. Gears and Equipment

For this tour, you won’t need any special gear—just pack comfortable clothing suitable for sightseeing. Still, to help you prepare, here’s a basic guideline of personal items you might consider bringing along. These are entirely optional and depend on your preferences and the season you’re traveling in.

The most important thing to keep in mind when packing is the time of year. If you’re traveling during the colder months (November to December), make sure to bring a few warm layers.

We’ll provide drinking water during the tour to help keep you hydrated.
