Trip Overview

This trip takes you deep into the cultural heart of the Kathmandu Valley. Explore UNESCO World Heritage Sites, stroll beneath the pagoda temples and palaces of the ancient durbar squares, and watch the cityscape from the hilltop temple of Swoyambhunath. A scenic drive takes you to Nagarkot, a peaceful hillside known for its rolling green hills and wide views of Himalayan peaks. It is a perfect place to witness a magical sunrise or sunset. The tour ends with a heritage walk through the charming Newari villages of Khokana and Bungamati.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu (1,400 m / 4,593 ft): 3-4 hrs

Your trip begins at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu. After completing customs, our airport representative will meet you and transfer you to your hotel. Once you check in and freshen up, we will explore the bustling Ason bazaar, a lively market filled with spices, vegetables, and traditional goods. You will also stroll through Thamel, Kathmandu’s vibrant tourist hub lined with restaurants, handicraft shops, and trekking stores. This is a perfect place to pick up souvenirs or essentials before your journey.

Day 2: Guided Sightseeing in Kathmandu (1,400 m / 4,593 ft): 6-7 hrs

After breakfast, your guide will take you on a full-day city tour. You will visit Boudhanath, one of the largest Buddhist stupas in the world, and Pashupatinath, Nepal’s most sacred Hindu temple located on the banks of the Bagmati River. In Patan Durbar Square, admire traditional Newari architecture, intricate woodwork, and beautiful courtyards. Later, visit Kopan Monastery, a peaceful Tibetan Buddhist monastery where monks engage in prayers and rituals.

Day 3: Sightseeing and Drive to Nagarkot (2,195 m / 7,201 ft): 6-7 hrs

Today you will continue exploring cultural landmarks. Visit Swoyambhunath (the Monkey Temple), a hilltop stupa offering panoramic views of Kathmandu Valley. Next, head to Kathmandu Durbar Square, once home to the Malla kings, to see ancient temples and the living goddess Kumari’s residence. Then visit Bhaktapur Durbar Square, known for its pagoda-style Nyatapola Temple and the famous 55-window palace. In the afternoon, drive to Nagarkot, a serene hill station famous for Himalayan views and stunning sunsets.

Day 4: Sunrise at Nagarkot and Heritage Village Tour (2,195 m / 7,201 ft): 6-7 hrs

Wake up early to catch a magical sunrise over the Himalayas. On clear days, you can spot peaks from Annapurna to Everest. After breakfast, drive to Changu Narayan Temple, one of the oldest temples in Nepal, dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Then visit the heritage villages of Khokana and Bungamati, known for their traditional Newari lifestyle, ancient temples, and exquisite woodcarvings. In the evening, return to Kathmandu and enjoy a farewell dinner.

Difficulty Level

This trip is easy and designed for travelers of all fitness levels. Light walking and sightseeing are included, and no prior trekking or hiking experience is required. Bring comfortable walking shoes and stay hydrated during the day.

Meals

Throughout our trek, you’ll savor authentic Nepalese dishes alongside international cuisines such as Tibetan, Continental, Italian, and Indian. Breakfast and dinner will be served at the tea houses or lodge menus where we stay overnight, while lunches will be provided en route to our next destination. During the trek, all meals are included. In Kathmandu, Nagarkot, breakfast is provided, and farewell dinner will be arranged for our guests on the final night in Kathmandu.

Accommodation

We’ll be accommodated at Hotel Manaslu in Kathmandu, and the best available hotels in Nagarkot during our tour. Accommodations are based on twin sharing. For those requesting a single room, there will be an additional cost of USD 100. Single rooms are readily available in Kathmandu, but availability might be limited at higher elevations.

Weather Information

Daytime temperatures in Kathmandu and Nagarkot range between 18°C to 27°C (65°F and 80°F) depending on the season. Evenings and mornings can be cooler, averaging 10°C (50°F). From October to December skies are generally clear and visibility of the Himalayas is at its best, while March to May brings warm, dry weather and blooming landscapes.
