The Everest Three Passes Trek is a thrilling high-altitude journey through the Khumbu region, perfect for trekkers looking for a serious adventure. This 20-day trek takes you across three of the highest and most scenic mountain passes in the Everest area, Kongma La (5,535 m), Cho La (5,380 m), and Renjo La (5,310 m).
Starting with a mountain flight from Kathmandu to Lukla, the route winds through Sherpa villages, alpine valleys, and dramatic Himalayan landscapes. Early acclimatization in Namche Bazaar gives you the chance to rest and enjoy first views of Everest, Ama Dablam, and other nearby peaks.

Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu (1,300 m/4,264 ft)
After arriving, a representative of Ama Adventure will pick you up from the airport. Furthermore, check in to a hotel and explore near your neighbourhood.

Day 2: Kathmandu Valley Tour & Trip Preparation
After Breakfast, we start a tour around the (UNESCO) Heritage Sites. Tour includes visiting Swayambhunath also known as the Monkey Temple which is a popular pilgrimage site for both Hindu and Buddhist devotees. Tour continues to Pashupatinath temple, a famous pilgrimage site for Hindu devotees. The day tour ends at the Boudhanath stupa that is one of the largest stupas in South Asia. In the afternoon, prepare for trekking the next day, then join the welcome dinner in the evening.

Day 3: Kathmandu to Lukla by flight, Trek to Phakding (2610 m/8,563 ft), 3-4 hrs
Early in the morning, we will fly to Lukla, which takes 35 minutes. We start trekking to Phakding through small settlements, farmland, Buddhist Chorten. Trek also crosses a couple of suspension bridges, stunning view, lead on along the bank of the Dudh Koshi River. After a beautiful day, overnight at Phakding.
Manthali to Lukla Flight (March, April, May, September, October and November)
During peak seasons, such as March, April, May, September, October and November the flight to Lukla will be operated from Ramechhap/Manthali due to air traffic expansion. The Manthali/Ramechhap airport is about a 5 to 6 hours drive away from Kathmandu. On this day, we wake up between 1:00 AM and 3:00 AM, take an escorted shuttle to Manthali Airport in a shared tourist vehicle, and board a 20-minute flight to Lukla.
Kathmandu to Lukla Flight (January, February, June, July, August and December)
The flight to Lukla is typically operated from Kathmandu during nonpeak seasons, which include January, February, June, July, August and December. Please be aware that the decision regarding the operation of flights solely depends on the airline and is influenced by the volume of travelers during a specific month. On this day, we wake up between 5:00 AM and 6:00 AM. Our staff will escort you to the domestic airport terminal in Kathmandu, where you will board a 35-minute flight to Lukla.
Helicopter Option Helicopter Option
You have the option to book a direct helicopter flight from Kathmandu to Lukla for an extra charge of USD 550 per person. This price is quoted on a 5-people sharing basis. This is the best alternative to avoid the long drive to Manthali airport during peak season (March, April, May, October, and November).
Flight to Tenzing-Hillary Airport usually takes place early in the morning. We suggest you make all the sorting and packing the day before, so there is no rush on Day 2.
Once you reach Lukla, have your breakfast while our guide will make an arrangement for porters. We assign one porter to every two clients.
Today’s trek takes us to Phakding, following a straightforward trail out of Lukla alongside the Dudh Koshi River. Descending gradually, we join the trail leading to Namche Bazaar, passing just above Chaurikharka (2,713 m/8,900 ft).
Continuing on, we traverse through the quaint village of Ghat before reaching Phakding after a brisk and scenic hike.
The trail offers glimpses of local life and stunning river views, setting the stage for our journey deeper into the Everest region.

Day 4: Phakding to Namche Bazaar (3,440 m/11,286 ft), 6-7 hrs
Today we trek to Namche Bazaar on the Bank of the Dudhkoshi river. We pass the pine forest and that goes north up the Benkar village. After crossing the suspension bridge over the Dudh Koshi river, we will reach the Monjo village that is the entrance point of the Sagarmatha National Park. Then trek the multiple villages like Benker, Chumoa, Manjo, Jorasalle along with suspension bridges. After lunch, the trail gets steeper but offers the first look of Everest and amazing river valley views and virtues of faunas. We finally reach Namche Bazaar overnight.

Day 5: Acclimatization Day
Namche Bazaar is the primary administrative town for the Khumbu region with all facilities located west of the Dudh Koshi River. For acclimatization, we kike up to Sagarmatha National Park to enjoy the spectacular view of (Chomolumba) Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Ama Dablam, Kongde, and many more. To adjust with the altitude, we climb a little bit more, and rest before the next ascent you can spend your day hiking to Everest viewpoint. Lunch will be in Khumjung, After Lunch a short visit around the village and back to Namche Bazaar.

Day 6: Namche To Tengboche Village (3,840 m/12,288 ft), 5-6 hrs
After breakfast, we will start to climb near the Sagarmatha National Park. Then, continue to walk on the wider trail with an amazing backdrop of Mt Everest and other snowy peaks. We pass the stunning rhododendron and pine forest to Tengboche. After Kyanjuma we will continue to descend to the Phunki Thanka, where we have our lunch. After lunch, we need to climb Tengboche gradually. The Tengboche Monastery is the second biggest Monastery in the Kumbu region offers panoramic views of Mt. Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, and Thamserku. Upon arrival, we will visit Monastery to observe the religious chanting. After an amazing day, overnight at Teahouse.

Day 7: Tengboche to Dingboche (4,410 m/14,468 ft), 5-6 hrs
Today we will start the trek through the incredible Rhododendron forest that looks amazing during spring when it starts blooming. We cross the suspension bridge above the Dudh Kosi River and continue to Pangboche. Then we continue trek to Somare, which will be our lunch spot. After lunch, trail cross the Lobuche river then turn right to Imja river valley. Dingboche is a small beautiful village with a farm of barley, potato, and buckwheat fields complete with animals grazing along the bank of Imjakhola. Finally, we reach Dingboche, and we stay overnight here.

After breakfast we will climb North West above the villages to acclimate. The view points offer the mesmerizing view of world highest peaks including Makalu, Lhotse, and others popular mountains like Amadablam. It is great to witness the sunrays across the Imjakhola river valley over the Himalayas. After amazing hike back to hotel for lunch.

Day 9: Dingboche to Chhukung (4,750 m/15,580 ft), Hike to Chhukung Ri (5,546m), 6-7 hrs
Trek to Chhukung begins along the bank of Imja Khola river valley through high altitude Yak Pasture Land with a stone-walled field. Along the way, we will pass the Bribe sphere of yaks where you can admire the stunning mountain view as well as the glacier. The trek to Chhukung offers an amazing view of Ama Dablam, Amphu peaks, and the mysterious landscape of Imja Khola river valley. We will walk on the ice stream about an hour before our lunch destination. After lunch, we will hike up to Chhukung Ri for acclimatization. After an exciting hike, return to Chhukung where we stay overnight.

Day 10 : Chhukung to Lobuche (4910 m/16,104 ft) via Khongma-La pass (5535m/18159ft), 6-7 hrs
From Chhukung we directly head to the Kongma- La pass which is the highest part of the entire journey. There are two different ways to Kongma -La pass, one is over the hill to the northwest of Chhukung village through Glacier moraine. Another option is to return to Bark then walk along the bank of Niyayang Khola. The top of the Kongma-La pass is decorated by stone cranes and flustering prayer flags adorn the mountain on top. From the top, we descend the steep part of the entire day. We climb the opposite side of the moraine where the trail turns north to Khumbu Glacier moraine and continue to Lobuche overnight.

Day 11: Lobuche to Gorakshep (5,170 m/16,961 ft) hike to Everest Base camp (5,364 m/17,594 ft), 8-9 hrs
Today after breakfast, we trek to Gorakshep then visit the Everest Base Camp through Khumbu glacier moraine. This trek offers the magnificent view of Mt Pumori, Linden, Khumche peak, Nuptse, Khumbu Icefall, and an amazing glacier structure. There are lots of narrow meandering of rough terrain, passing yak, and porters with loads on the trail please follow your leader’s instructions. After a couple of hours of ancient, there is a brief descent to reach the Gorakshep. After a short break, we will continue our journey to Everest Base camp which is the dream destination for those traveling in the Everest region. After an amazing time at the Base Camp, return to Gorakshep overnight.

Day 12: Gorak Shep to Kala Pathar (5,550 m/18,204 ft) back to Lobuche, 6-7 hrs
From Gorak Shep, we start the ascent to Kalapather early in the morning to catch the spectacular sunrise view over the Himalayas. As we expect, walking to Kalapather gives a stunning view of the World’s Highest Mountains along with many other mountain panoramas. After a couple of hours of climb, reach Kala Patthar (5,545m). The place offers an outstanding view of Mt Everest, Nuptse, Pumori, most popular Khumbu Icefall along with a memorable sunrise view above the Himalayas. We will spend about 15 minutes at the top, then return to Gorakhshep for breakfast. After breakfast continues descent Lobuche for overnight.

Day 13: Lobuche to Dzongla (4,830 m/15,580 ft), 4 hrs
Today we trek to Dzongla on the side of the Glacial stream and the right side of the Kumbu Glacier moraine. Trek to Lobuche to Dzongla is a stunning Glacier of Looming Awi peak as well as a cross between a stupa and gravestone. After a couple of hours of walking in a gradual section, a trail gets stepper. Along the way, we can see Cholatse Lake from closer.The trails continue to the Small Lake then trek above the Cholakhola bridge. After an exciting day finally arrive at Dzongla overnight.

Day 14: Dzongla to Gokyo (4,800 m/15,580 ft) via Cho-La Pass (5,368 m/17,611 ft), 7-8 hrs
Trek from Dzongla to Gokyo starts ascending steeply to the Chola Lakes. The hard effort is worthwhile as we ascend to the Chola lakes as the view of Ama Dablam along the mountain on the south as well as Chocolate seeing on the west side. The trail gets steeper due to the boulder we have to walk above the winding boulder. Before reaching the Chola Pass, climbing is much harder as the trail turns into a round loop breach gap. The top of the pass is decorated with faltering Buddhist flags as well as stone cranes along with blood-rushing mountains. After passing, we have a knee busting descent to Thangnak walk on the ridge of the Ngozumpa glacier that is the longest glacier in Nepal. When we turn to the other side of the glacier, we can see sets of the lakes after walking for a while to reach the third Gokyo Lake. After a long day, overnight at the teahouse.

Day 15: Acclimatization Day
Early in the morning we hike up to Gokyo Ri to gain more altitudes as well as witness the golden sunrise over the himalayas, it’s take 3-4 hours. The Gokyo Ri is an amazing spot to enjoy spectacular mountain views including Everest and many other snow-covered mountains. After an incredible time we step back to the tea house for lunch. After lunch you can explore the surrounding lakes and stay there overnight.

Day 16: Gokyo to Lunden (4300 m/14104 ft) via Renjo-La Pass (5,360 m/17,585 ft), 7-8 hrs
Today we have a longer route from Koyo pass through Renjo-La pass all the way to Marlung. We walked on the bank of Dudh Pokhari for a couple of hours before dropping down to the Renjo-La pass. Along the journey, you’ll see the background of the Rowling Range along with others mountain range. Beyond the pass trail, the band descends to the stone steps with loose rocks before reaching to the south of the Angladumba Tsho Lake. The trail can be quite risky therefore we need extra concentration while we trek. When we descend for a while, admire Tsho and Renjo Lake, then continue descent in the narrow valley stone boulder all the way to Lunden. Before reaching Lunden, we have to walk about an hour along the east bank of Bhote Koshi River valley. After a beautiful long challenging day, we arrive in Lunden, where we stay overnight.

Day 17: Lunden to Thame (3,800 m), 4-5 hrs
We start our trek after breakfast. Today, the trail will mostly descend down to to Thame.
While on the trail we can see amazing snow peaks. About 150 meters above Thame, there is a Thame Monastery, a picturesque monastery set among the many homes of monks and lay people.
It resides on the side of a hill overlooking the valley. This is the site for the spring celebration of the Mani Rimdu festival, held about the middle of May each year.

Day 18: Thame to Namche Bazaar (3,440 m), 4-5 hrs
Thame is a quiet, traditional Sherpa village that remains untouched by the busy Everest trekking crowds. It’s also home to one of the region’s oldest monasteries and the legendary Apa Sherpa, who reached the summit of Everest 21 times.
The trail from Thame offers a calm and scenic walk, with beautiful mountain views as it winds through forested canyon paths. On this day, we make our way downhill from Thame.
It’s a short and gentle trek, with Namche Bazaar as our final stop for the day and the end point of our journey.

Day 19: Namche Bazaar to Lukla, 6-7 hrs
Trek from Namche Bazaar to Lukla is the last day of your trekking, beginning with a steep descent and mammalian traffic where you are always on the safe side. Here, trekking passes through beautiful small villages such as the Jorsalle, Monjo, Phakding expecting for short ascent and continuing decent handrails of Dudh Koshi River crossing it three times. Before reaching Lukla, you have to ascend a gentle slope for 45m to get to the final destination. After a long day, you must rest overnight at Lukla.

Day 20: Lukla To Kathmandu by flight
After breakfast, hoping to get an early flight back to Ramechhap, the flight from Lukla to Kathmandu takes 30 minutes. Then drive back to Kathmandu normally it takes 4 to 5 hours and then check-in to Hotel and get a rest.
Lukla to Manthali Flight (March, April, May, September, October and November)
The flight from Lukla to Manthali is a 20-minute flight. After that, it is about a 5 to 6 hour drive to Kathmandu. Please note that the driving hrs may vary according to the highway traffic condition. You’ll be transferred to the hotel in Kathmandu on a shared tourist vehicle.
Lukla to Kathmandu Flight (January, February, June, July, August and December)
The flight from Lukla takes about 35 minutes. After arriving at the airport, you will be transferred to the hotel in Kathmandu via a shared tourist vehicle. Today is the final day of our trip. Our representative drops you off at the airport, wishes you a safe journey, and hopes to see you on your next adventure.

This trekking required a person with average physical fitness no need to have special training therefore beginner hikers also can complete this trek. This trekking leads you to the high altitude gradually within the short period there will significant change in weather due to the altitude variation.

Note: Laundry opportunities are limited, so pack accordingly.

Tip: Thamel is full of gear shops where you can purchase or rent trekking essentials at a reasonable price once you’re in Kathmandu.

Weather Information
Mountain weather changes a lot with elevation and landscape. Starting in Lukla, you’ll gain height each day, and temperatures will slowly get colder. Days are warmed by the sun, but nights become quite cold. At higher altitudes, nighttime temperatures can drop to the teens or twenties (°F). Mornings usually start with a fleece or jacket, and you can add or remove layers during the day as needed.
