The Chisapani Nagarkot Trek provides an opportunity to experience rural life in surrounding villages, enjoy wildlife, and admire the stunning mountain views at sunset and sunrise over the Himalayas. Located north of Kathmandu Valley, the Chisapani Nagarkot hike offers a close-up view of the Himalayan panorama along with incredible natural diversity. This trek is becoming popular for festival vacations, weekends, and trekking with children.
The journey begins with an hour-long drive to Sundarijal, near a large watershed that supplies 40% of the water for Kathmandu. This trek is the perfect destination to visit any time of the year. It is not too difficult and is easily accessible from the capital. The short trek allows for a substantial round trip within the Shivapuri National Park, from Sundarijal to Changunarayan.
The Nagarkot Chisapani trek is suitable for those with limited time and budget who seek adventure. It is ideal for students, volunteers, beginner travelers, and families who wish to explore a blend of natural and cultural attractions. This incredible journey is especially rewarding after a long-term pandemic.

Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Kathmandu-Chisapani (2,135 m): 4-5 hrs
After breakfast, we travel to Sundarijal. It takes about an hour by private vehicle. Sundarijal is the starting point of our trek and the entry point for Shivapuri National Park, where we purchase the entrance ticket at the army check post. From the beginning, we enter the dense ancient forest, filled with the peaceful sounds of birds and waterfalls. The trek from Sundarijal to Chisapani offers incredible valley views, diverse nature, various flora and fauna, and the isolated Tamang village called Mulkharka along the way.
Mulkharka is our lunch stop, where you must try dal bhat with local chicken curry to enjoy the authentic local taste along with the amazing valley view. After lunch, we continue through the dense rhododendron forest, passing the Nepal Army Camp.
After half an hour of rest, we descend through the beautiful stone-paved stairs all the way to Chisapani.
Chisapani is a great place to spend the night, with a slight chill and splendid mountain views.

Day 2: Chisapani-Nagarkot (2,175 m): 7-8 hrs
Chisapani is an epic viewpoint to witness the golden sunrise and sunset. Set your alarm to catch these spectacular moments over the mountain panorama. After breakfast, we make our way through peaceful rhododendron forests and mysterious landscapes. The trek continues to Jule, where we take a short refreshment break for drinks and snacks. Before reaching the scenic hillside, we cross beautiful local villages, rice paddies, and enjoy the beauty of Shivapuri National Park. After a lifetime experience, the day finally concludes at Nagarkot for a well-deserved overnight stay.

Day 3: Nagarkot-Changunarayan: 6 hrs drive to Kathmandu
After admiring the sunrise view over the Himalayas, we have our final breakfast at this peaceful hill station. We then begin descending along the ridge, enjoying spectacular views of Bhaktapur, Sankhu, and the local villages surrounding Kathmandu Valley. The trail continues through dense rhododendron and pine forests, passing popular picnic spots with kaleidoscopic mountain views. This is the last chance to observe the snow-covered mountains. After a refreshing hike, we reach Changunarayan, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which marks the final stop of our tailor-made 3-day trek. We then drive back to Kathmandu for an overnight stay.

Difficulty Level
This trek is suitable for people with above-average physical fitness. There is no requirement for special technical skills; beginners can also do this trek. The trek may reach high altitudes and require a high level of physical exertion. Although we hike for 5 to 10 hours daily, we gain significant elevation.

Meals
Throughout our trek, you’ll savor authentic Nepalese dishes alongside international cuisines such as Tibetan, Continental, Italian, and Indian. Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be served at the hotels in Chisapani and Nagarkot where we stay overnight, while lunches will be provided en route to our next destination. During the trek, all meals are included. In Kathmandu, farewell dinner will be arranged for our guests.
Lodging
We’ll be accommodated at Standard Hotel in Kathmandu and the best available hotels in Chisapani and Nagarkot. Accommodations are based on twin sharing. For those requesting a single room, there will be an additional cost of USD 150. While we aim for rooms with attached washrooms, please note that some tea houses may only have shared washing and toilet facilities. Single rooms are readily available in Kathmandu, and lower-elevation trekking areas, but availability might be limited at higher elevations.
