Travel Rules and Regulation in Nepal in 2022

Nepal has become the latest among a few nations to ease entry protocol by removing all pre-arrival testing requirements. Along with the Department of Immigrations announcement, a new travel protocol has been released on trekking, mountaineering, and other travel activities for an international traveler. The Government of Nepal ensured that Nepal is open for all travel and public activities and that the city and mountain areas are safe for travel. As a result, people have already started their travel activities in Nepal.

Locals, travel agencies, destinations management are ready to host the guests and hope to get filled with travelers. Even though there are so many changes in travel reactions, international travelers must follow some rules during visa approval.

The recent change in the Covid-19 safety guidelines updated by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is great news for the travel industry from all over the world. Based on the travel safety measures and hygiene protocols, the CDS officially amended its guidelines.

Resumption of Trekking

This safety guideline is a combination of reports published by the Department of Immigration, the Government of Nepal about travel in Nepal after vaccination and the booster dose. This safety guideline is created considering the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as its base, as of 2022.

According to a new travel update of CDC Safety guidelines, a fully vaccinated person can now attend small outdoor gatherings, even without wearing a mask, and can participate in the social activities of those who have not been vaccinated. It is great news for travelers from all around the world and the entire tourism industry.

According to Nepal's government, passengers arriving by air or land should submit a certificate of vaccination against the Covid-19 new variant as well as for the information of all concerned as the following arrangements have been made regarding the passengers arriving by air and land.

1. New updates allow people to participate in public programs and social events without any physical distancing. Masks and age barriers are no longer required.

2. It is even permitted for non-vaccinated people to gather with vaccinated families, organize public programs by wearing masks, and socially distancing themselves.

3. People are allowed to get together for festivals, outdoor events, and any other public activities.

4. Fully vaccinated travelers for domestic travel do not need to undergo pre or post-travel testing.

5. In addition to submitting a certificate of negative PCR test report within 72 hours after returning from international travel, there is no quarantine requirement.

6. It is mandatory to wear masks when riding public transportation.

7. If someone tests Covid-19 positive, then they have to stay in quarantine only for 5 days until receiving the negative PCR report.

8. Travelers with moderate to severely compromised immune systems should receive an additional dose after the initial 2 doses.

9. To reduce the risk of being infected, it is better to wear a mask when you are traveling in public.

10. For the travelers going out of Nepal by air, the concerned airlines have to inform their passengers about the Covid-19 related protocol of the destination country. The passenger departing from Nepal must submit their health-related documents as prescribed by the concerned airlines.

11. Under the prevailing law, all the foreign nationals with a certificate of complete vaccinations against Covid-19 or a negative PCR test report will be able to approve the arrival visa from the immigration office at the entry points. But citizens of Nigeria, Ghana, Zimbabwe, Swaziland, Cameroon, Somalia, Liberia, Ethiopia, Iraq, Palestine, Afghanistan, Syria, and passengers traveling with travel documents must bring visas from the Nepali embassy or mission abroad.

12. Foreign/Nepalese nationals entering Nepal from abroad will not have to remain in quarantine except when it seems necessary while examining health conditions.

13. Based on the status of a new variant of Covid-19, Omicron, as per the information provided by the ministry of health and population as well as the decision made by the Government of Nepal, the Department of Immigration can re-issue the Travel Advisory which will be published on the website of Department of Immigration.

14. The Department of Immigration has previously issued Travel Advisory information regarding Covid-19, as mentioned above.
