Mera Peak Climbing – 20 Days Brief Insight
Mera Peak is located in the Makalu Barun National Park in the eastern part of the Nepal Himalayas. The region is renowned for its biodiversity and offers various adventure activities. It presents an excellent opportunity to witness wildlife such as musk deer and snow leopards, as well as a diverse range of flora and fauna.
While climbing Mera Peak, you’ll have the chance to observe spectacular sunsets and sunrises over the Himalayas from the summit. The climb also provides stunning views of the world’s highest mountains including Mount Everest, Kanchenjunga, Makalu, Lhotse, and Cho Oyu, among others. Along the trekking route, you’ll pass by hidden ancient Buddhist stupas and monasteries.
Outline Itinerary
- Day 1: Kathmandu (1300m/4,264ft)
- Day 2: Kathmandu valley tour and trip preparation.
- Day 3: Kathmandu to Lukla by fly, trek to Paiya (2,730m/8,956ft): 5 - 6 Hours
- Day 4: Paiya to Nanggom (2,846m/9,337ft): 5 - 6 Hour
- Day 5: Panggom to Ningsow (2,863m/9,393ft): 4 - 5 Hours
- Day 6: Ningsow to ChhatraKhola (2,800m/9,186ft): 7 - 8 Hours
- Day 7: Chhatra Khola to Kothe (3,691m/12,109ft): 6 - 7 Hours
Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Kathmandu (1300m/4,264ft)
After arriving at the airport we will be welcomed by a representative of Ama Adventure. Furthermore, check into a hotel and explore the surrounding neighborhoods.
Day 2: Kathmandu valley tour and trip preparation.
After Breakfast, we start a tour around the world Heritage sites from Swayambhunath that is a popular pilgrimage site for both Hindu and Buddhist devotees and known as the self-created stupa. Tour continues to Pashupatinath temple, a famous pilgrimage site for Hindu devotees. The day tour ends at the Boudhanath stupa, considered the largest stupa in South Asia.
Day 3: Kathmandu to Lukla by fly, trek to Paiya (2,730m/8,956ft): 5 - 6 Hours
Early in the morning, we will fly to Lukla, which takes around 35 minutes. Lukla is the starting point of our Mera peak climbing. We started trekking to Paiya through some Sherpa settlements, Farmland, and Buddhist Chorten, overnight in Paiya.
Day 4: Paiya to Nanggom (2,846m/9,337ft): 5 - 6 Hour
After breakfast, we trek through rhododendron and bamboo forests on a narrow trail. On today’s trip, we also get to be in awe of the Dudh Kosi Valley. We continue our trek to Panggom Village. This village is dependent on farming and trading, Overnight in the Panggom village.
Day 5: Panggom to Ningsow (2,863m/9,393ft): 4 - 5 Hours
We begin our trek after breakfast. we cross the Panggung La pass. Then we ascend, trek on a steady path and turn north. We cross Ningsow Khola before reaching the Ningsow Village, Overnight in Ningsow.
Day 6: Ningsow to ChhatraKhola (2,800m/9,186ft): 7 - 8 Hours
Today, we climbed first Ramailo Dada and then descended into the dense forest. From here we get extraordinary views of Mera Peak and Salpa. After ascending and descending on our trail, we enter the Makalu Barun National Park. Our trail from here to Chhatra Khola. On the way, if we are lucky, we might even come across the elusive Red Panda. Overnight in Chhatra Khola.
Day 7: Chhatra Khola to Kothe (3,691m/12,109ft): 6 - 7 Hours
We trek towards the north on the main trail to Mera Peak. On the trekking trail next to the Majang Khola, we merge with another trail that moves alongside the Hinku Khola. Our trail moves straight ahead towards Taktok which has seasonal tea shops. We continue our trek to reach Kothe, Overnight in Kothe.
